Survey into Government Compensation Schemes

The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee need your help!

The Committee is examining how government compensation and financial recognition schemes are set up and administered, and what a well-functioning system should look like. As part of this work, they are keen to hear directly from people who have applied to a scheme about their experiences.

“We recognise that this is a sensitive area, and that people’s experiences of compensation and financial recognition schemes are often linked to difficult or personal circumstances.”

“Additionally, we know that recounting personal experiences can be difficult. Users of schemes will not be asked to describe the events that led them to apply.”

The survey will close at 11:59pm on Wednesday 10 June 2026.

About the survey:
The survey is voluntary and includes an open-ended question that invites respondents to suggest ways the process could be improved.

In addition, it contains a set of closed questions designed to gather structured feedback.

  • When they applied and which scheme they used
  • How easy or difficult the process felt
  • The evidence they were asked to provide
  • Whether they needed support to complete their application
  • How clearly timelines and next steps were communicated
  • The emotional impact of the process
  • Whether they felt treated with respect and fairly

The Public Accounts Committee examines whether government services and programmes are delivered efficiently and provide value for money. It does not assess the policy itself but focuses on how well it is implemented. Findings from this survey will inform recommendations to improve how compensation schemes are run in future.

Please note that, while the Committee is unable to address individual cases, it greatly appreciates your assistance. Hearing about people’s experiences is extremely valuable to the Committee’s work.
