Ambassador - South West

British Army | 1987-
Ambassador – South West
(She/Her/Hers)
Ruth joined the Army as an analyst in the Intelligence Corps. She predominantly served in the British Army Of the Rhine (BAOR) and Northern Ireland during ‘The Troubles’, where she received a commendation from the Prime Minister of the time, John Major.
Both Ruth and her partner at the time were interrogated by the Special Investigation Branch (SIB), and although no evidence could be found, her partner was sent on a 6 month tour of Cyprus to split them up. It proved too much with the continuous harassment and the SIB continuing to investigate that after 7 months apart they were forced to split up. Twenty-five years later, by some miracle, they were reunited and have been married since 2017.
Ruth served 25 years in HM Prison Service. During that time she engaged with and supported veterans including staff and prisoners. She was also the prison lead on Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity setting up focus groups and writing and delivering training programmes to staff and prisoners.
Ruth spent nearly 2 years with Fighting With Pride as a Veteran Community Work for Wales. FWP helped her return to the ‘military family’. She continues the work to help LGBTQ+ Veterans find that same place again as an Ambassador.
Ruth lives with her wife and their dogs in Cornwall.
