Dougie Morgan

FWP Ambassador – Scotland and Northern Ireland

Dougie Morgan is a proud veteran who served in the British Army from 1979 to 2018, dedicating 38 years to military service before leaving. Serving under the Gay Ban, Dougie experienced the challenges and fear of that era, witnessing outstanding soldiers being discharged and hounded out simply for being LGBTQ+. These experiences provided firsthand understanding of both the discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ service members and the profound challenges that injury or illness brings to the transition from military to civilian life. Since leaving the forces, these lived experiences have been channeled into transformational leadership in veteran support and LGBTQ+ advocacy, creating real change for those who served.

As Operations Manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Dougie took the lead in supporting Veterans, their families and serving personnel through the Etherton Enquiry and ensuring their needs were met by being the FWP lead ensuring they received respectful treatment, proper resources, and a sense of community.

Dougie was instrumental in setting up and coordinating Outreach and Awareness programmes educating veterans, families and communities about issues affecting LGBTQ+ veterans. Dougie worked closely with the Scottish and Northern Ireland Veteran Commisioners and the relevant devolved governments.

Dougie recognised the unique challenges faced by all Veteran Charities who saw LGBTQ+ Veterans as key people who could bring a diverse focus to their charities.

Dougie has been recognised by the Scottish Veterans Awards with Inspiration of the year and Uniformed Icon of the year and Overall Champion also with Proud of Scotland Outstanding Contribution to the LGBTQI+ Life award. Dougie is also a trustee with Community Veterans Support who are based in Govan Glasgow.

As a Fighting With Pride Ambassador, Dougie is here to fly the flag for Scotland and Northern Ireland, ensuring LGBTQ+ veterans and service personnel know they have a champion in their corner.

When not championing veterans and the LGBTQ+ community, Dougie is a Community Support Worker for SACRO and supports and integrates prisoners back into the community.

Dougie loves his golf and holidays with his husband Graeme.
