Peter Gibson LLB
Chief Executive Officer

Peter joins the charity following a five-year tenure as a Member of Parliament, bringing extensive experience in public service, law, and the charity sector. Born and raised in the North East, he qualified as a Solicitor in 2001. In 2005, he acquired a legal practice, expanding it to a team of sixty before entering Parliament in 2019. Peter has also served as a trustee for several organisations, including Newcastle University Students’ Union and North Yorkshire Hospice Care, where he has contributed for over a decade.

During his parliamentary career, Peter was a dedicated advocate for LGBT+ rights. He championed the Ban on Conversion Therapy and played a pivotal role in expanding Opt-Out HIV testing in collaboration with the Terrence Higgins Trust. As a Parliamentary Private Secretary to several Government departments, including the Cabinet Office, he worked closely with then Veterans Minister Johnny Mercer during the release of the Etherton Report. Peter’s connection to the Armed Forces is personal, with brothers who have served in the Army and the Royal Marines. His participation in the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme provided him with valuable insights into military life both in the UK and abroad.

Peter lives with his husband Gareth, dividing their time between County Durham and North Yorkshire, accompanied by their beloved dogs, Clemmie the Jack Russell and Ebony the Labrador.
