Gulliver’s partner is an infantry officer whose first 13 years were served under the ban, so he has an awareness of the historic challenges faced by LGBT+ and how for some the impact is ongoing. He spent 20 years in teaching and senior leadership roles in higher education, including 4 years as head of a college at a London university, leading and collaborating on programmes supporting the mental health and development of young adults.
He then began training as a psychotherapist, working for two psychotherapy practices in London and gaining an understanding of the difficulties faced by communities across the city. His involvement with military charities began in 2013 as a trustee of Glen Art, a charity helping those from a military background return to civilian life. The charity later transformed into Bravehound, which now provides ADI qualified dogs to medically diagnosed veterans.
Gulliver has also worked as a musician, recording as a singer and conductor, performing alongside a number of West End and cabaret legends as a pianist, and as artistic director and advisor to festivals in the UK. He has been a regular writer for Literary Review and been invited to speak at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and the Royal Academy on music, the arts, and mindfulness.
