Your Regional Veteran Community Worker – Anthony Knight MBE, KJ

Anthony is a former Royal Navy Warfare Officer with 28 years’ service. His military career includes nine ships and time with the Royal Canadian Navy and NATO’s Southern Region Command. He holds five campaign medals and was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 2003 New Year’s Honours list.

Anthony identifies with the LGBT+ community as a parent of a gay child. Military retirement in 2008 provided him with an opportunity to retrain as a Psychotherapist and he holds mental health qualifications as both an Advanced and Senior Practitioner. He brings in-depth knowledge of Health and Social Care matters to FWP and looks to help veterans seeking support through the NHS OP Courage programme. Anthony is a student of Positive Psychology and advocate of positivity, creativity, and development of character strengths. He has also supported veterans in the Justice System as a McKenzie Friend.

He is Vice-Chairperson of Healthwatch Portsmouth and is an Ambassador for the City of Portsmouth. He was awarded an Order of Merit by the International Society for Peace Work (IGFVT) for mental health support to veterans during the Covid-19 pandemic and was made a Knight of the Order of St. Joachim (OSJ) for his charity and volunteer work that stretches back over 45 years. He was presented with the OSJ Benefactor Silver Medal in September 2023.

Anthony is married and lives in Portsmouth. He is an avid rugby union fan and is currently learning to play the harmonica: Part of his own positivity and creativity programme!

Portsmouth – Veterans Outreach Support (VOS)

Come and see me at our stall at the VOS monthly drop-in afternoon. FWP is a service delivery partner, and the VOS Drop-In takes place on the first Wednesday of every month from 13:30 to 16:30 in the Royal Maritime Club, Queen Street, Portsmouth

Portsmouth – Age UK Veterans Breakfast Club

I will be attending the Veteran’s Breakfast Club at Age UK’s Cafe on Friday, 24th May, at the Bradbury Centre, 16-18 Kingston Road, Portsmouth PO1 5RZ. The breakfast event is from 10 am – 12 noon and costs £5 for a breakfast sandwich or £6 for a full English. Both include a hot drink and free top-ups. To book, please ring 02392 862121. Come along and chat; it will be a good opportunity to learn about the FWP and Age UK partnership and OP Sterling support. Gosport – FirstLight Trust Gosport Cafe

Open to veterans and the public alike. Pop in for coffee, a slice of delicious homemade cake or just a chat. Comfy seats and board games await! Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. Petersfield – Veterans Hub Winston House

Armed forces veterans and serving servicemen and women are invited to enjoy tea, coffee, and cake at the Armed Forces Drop-In Centre at Winton House in Petersfield High Street. The next meeting is on Thursday, May 2nd, from 4 to 8 p.m. Unfortunately, there will be no FWP as I will be away, but I hope to be at a future drop-in and will keep you updated.

 

 

Regional Pride Events

Pride events for the region have finished for this year. We will try and get involved in as many local 2024 prides as we possibly can and it would be great if you could come along and support us. We will let you know the details as we get information and post them here and in our Newsletter.
